Grammy Winning Gremlin Granola!!
Remember when "granola" was for tree-hugging hippies... not that there's anything wrong with hippies... I was quite a hippie myself, back in the day! Not anymore!
THIS nutty granola is for "lean, mean", health conscious eaters who want protein, fiber, and flavor in every bite of their granola-goodness... and that's exactly what you'll get!!
Begin by adding 3 cups oats (not instant), half cup almonds, half cup pecans, one quarter cup walnuts and one quarter cup sunflower seeds to a big bowl. I also added 2 heaping tablespoons wheat germ (extra protein), half teaspoon cinnamon, and half teaspoon kosher salt and mix all together.
Last, and what I love about this granola is this, add one half cup of maple syrup! Here's why I love it so much, there's no extra fat (oil) or extra sugars at all... just some maple syrup... the way we like it!! Mix together and make sure everything is coated in that mapley-goodness!
Set the oven to 300 degrees and spread the granola on to a cookie sheet (sprayed with cooking spray). Pop into the oven for about 30-40 minutes. Make sure to mix a few times while granola gets all toasty and delicious!
Toasty, mapley, cinnamony, delicious nutty granola.... perfect on it's own... But...
If you like dried fruit in your granola, or chocolate chips (and who wouldn't) add it after granola comes out of the oven and cools, so it doesn't get all dried out and chewy.
Now here's where you can make this granola all your own! Add whatever fruit you like... raisins, apricots, dates, dried cherries, cranberries... anything!
I added a big handful of dried blueberries and they kicked this (already delicious) granola's ass clear into granola-awesomeness!! After completely cooled, store in an air tight container... that is, if it's not already GONE before you get it out of the pan! Seriously killer granola without all the extra sugars, fat, or preservatives! Yes, please!!!
